The Otto Walberg Memorial Scholarship Endowment of The Skagit Community Foundation is offering one (1) scholarship this year. The scholarship award is $1,000. Until his death in 1988, Otto Walberg was an avid participant in softball – as an umpire, coach and player – as well as being a popular Skagit County Commissioner. The Otto Walberg Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established to raise scholarship funds for Skagit-based high school softball female participants wishing to further their education. The recipients do not need to be continuing in a softball program after high school. Each spring, The Otto Walberg Memorial Scholarship Endowment awards a $1,000 scholarship to deserving softball participants who have demonstrated leadership, enthusiasm sportsmanship and have economic needs. Eligibility: To qualify, the applicant must be a female graduating senior at Anacortes, Burlington-Edison, Concrete, LaConner, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley or Stanwood High Schools. The applicant must also be a softball participant. The recipient must use the scholarship to attend an accredited technical school, community college, college or university.
