Washington Mutual Alumni Scholarship

Description:
After Washington Mutual was acquired in 2008, a group of local philanthropists and community leaders – who were formerly executives at Washington Mutual – joined together to start the Washington Mutual Alumni Scholarship fund. The intention is to help displaced employees and their families by providing scholarship opportunities for dependents of employees who are in college or who are college bound in the near future. The donors also wish to encourage job retraining for former employees. The first round of awards was made in spring 2009 for the 2009 – 2010 school year. We anticipate having funds to make new awards for the next few years.
Applicants must be a former employee of Washington Mutual, or the child, step-child, or dependent of a former employee, who worked for the company in Washington state and for a minimum of five consecutive years--working 1000 or more hours each year, and terminating on or after April 1, 2007. (Preference will be given to those who worked longer for the company.)
